A teapot is a vessel used for steeping Tea leaves or even a herbal combination in boiling or near-boiling water, also for serving the consequent extract which is called tea. Dry tea is available either in Tea bags or as loose tea, in the case a tea infuser or tea strainer could be of some assistance, either to maintain the leaves because they steep or to catch the leaves within the teapot when the tea has been poured. Teapots usually have an opening with a lid in their shirt, where the dry tea and warm water have been added, a handle for carrying by hand and a spout where the tea has been served. A few teapots possess a strainer built-in on the inner edge of the spout. A small air hole in the lid is often made to prevent the spout out of dripping and splashing when tea has been poured. Today, a thermal protect known as a tea cosy may be utilised to boost the steeping process or to avoid the contents of this teapot from cooling too rapidly.
